2020 Year End Note from FORL President Linda Fogel

Dear Friends,

2020 has been an unusual year for all of us ...and the library. After months of closure, we’re fortunate to have the Rockridge Library be one of the curbside pickup areas. We said farewell to Paul Schiesser, who retired, and offered a warm virtual welcome to the new Branch Manager Sandra Toscano.

When the library does reopen, thanks to our generous donors you will discover:

• New chairs for the reading area, which did get tested at the beginning of the year

• Expanded and better shelving in the children’s room

• Great plans and activities for the Teen Room

• Our friendly library staff

Due to the closure, we are able to carry over some funds from last year. Because we are in a fortunate position here in Rockridge, during this giving season we will be sharing half of the donations we receive with other Oakland library branches that do not have the same fundraising abilities in their neighborhoods.

When we are confronted with societal and economic challenges, our libraries have been there to fill a gap—after-school programs, computer access, a welcoming space to just be. The friends’ groups of the various branches meet periodically, and we hear about how much they do and how much more they could do to serve their neighborhood with a bit more monetary assistance.

So this year, your gift to the Friends of the Rockridge Library will reach further and help our wonderful library community during these challenging times. We all benefit from strong libraries throughout our city.

Should you wish to make a tax deductible gift, please click here for our mailing address or to make a secure online donation. Thank you for your support and commitment to the library and our community. We are grateful for your generosity.

Sincerely,

Linda Fogel, President

Friends of the Rockridge Library
