The Rockridge Library gets Out & About

The library took to the street this past Sunday with a booth at the annual Out & About street festival on College Avenue. Rockridge Branch staff and board members from the Friends of the Rockridge Library gave away about 75 donated children's and youth books to families that stopped by.

Young kids had the opportunity to color while older kids made their own buttons, and nearly two dozen adults signed up for library cards. Additionally, representatives from the citywide Friends of the Oakland Public Library group sold raffle tickets to raise funds for grants to branches in the system.

Rockridge Library Aide Yohan Smith was excited to spend the day at the booth. "It was positive, encouraging and affirming," Smith said. "I enjoyed that patrons stopped by to say hello, and others stopped by to say 'I love the library.' It was so much fun!"
