Summer STEM Learning at Rockridge!

Are you looking for something fun to prevent summer brain drain? The Rockridge Library is excited to host a series of science adventures for K-8 kiddos this summer. On Wednesday afternoons in June and July, students in the community are invited to come and play with Scientific Adventures for Girls (yes, boys are encouraged to come too)!

In each session, science-loving teachers will lead groups through a design challenge. Event leaders aren’t saying what they’ll do exactly, but word from a reliable source tells the Friends that students will be building circuits, designing earthquake-proof towers, or making their own ice cream at each of the sessions.

No registration is required and there’s no fee. Just drop in a few minutes before the start time to make sure you get a seat for the adventure! Adults, please do plan to stay with your children. You are your child’s first teacher and learning together is more fun for everyone.

There’s one adventure per week, so mark your calendar to check them all out!

Wednesdays: June 14, June 28, and July 12, 3:30-5:00pm

Rockridge Public Library, 5366 College Ave, Oakland, CA 94618

Free for kids entering kindergarten through eighth grade

The program is led by Scientific Adventures for Girls, a local organization obsessed with sparking girls’ interest and confidence in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) fields. Scientific Adventures for Girls teaches after school programs at five Oakland elementary schools, where girls learn to love science!

Once you catch the STEM bug, you can follow the adventures around Oakland at libraries all over town. Programs run from June 14 through August 16 at seven Oakland Public Libraries. The free library programs are sponsored by NXP Semiconductors to bring the excitement about science to Oakland girls and boys all summer long. Check out the full schedule here.
