Newberys in Under Two Minutes

This February brought us yet another installment of the very popular youth-made films of Newbery award winning books on the silver screen. Sound impressive? Now imagine each film clocking in at 90 seconds or less. WOW! That takes talent and excellent editing skills.

James Kennedy, the master behind all of this madness, once again emceed the show to many giggles and hijinks. He brought with him Marcus Ewert and Keir Graff, two Bay Area children's authors who joined in the fun of this always witty performance.

This year, one Oakland filmmaker was present to answer questions about his film, which brought a heightened level of excitement for everyone. How great to hear from the author himself! And what a marvelous opportunity for this burgeoning director, who handled the heady experience with poise and aplomb.

Always a special addition to a film screening at the library is the popcorn maker (funded with love by FORL), which was managed by two teen volunteers who happily popped for the masses.
