Changes at the Oakland Public Library

After 18 years at the Oakland Public Library, Gerry Garzon retired last week as the Director of the library. A librarian for 40 years, Gerry had been the Director since 2013. In honor of his retirement, the Oakland City Council presented a decree bestowing his talents and accomplishments to a large crowd of supporters who filled the chambers. Fellow FORL board member Elizabeth Falkner and I attended the ceremony. Here's Annie Campbell Washington, Councilmember, reading the decree:

A reception after the ceremony allowed all of us time to chat with Gerry and wish him well, while also admiring his library-themed tie!

Bon voyage, Gerry! We'll miss you!
