Toys at the Library!
Two questions for you:
Did you know that Oakland Public Library (OPL) librarians--including those at the Rockridge Library--blog on the Oakland Public Library web site regularly, on a variety of topics?
Did you know that all branches of OPL lend toys to kids birth to 6?
If you answered "no" to either question, I urge you to begin pointing your browser to the OPL Blog page to find out what's new in fiction, or what children's programs might tempt your little ones, or which adult programs you should be adding to your calendar.
The OPL site has So Much Information, and I admit I don't visit it often enough, but when I do, I always find something new. Like this: all branches of OPL are now circulating toys for kids ages 0-6. Check out this page to learn more about this new pilot program and what they're lending. You may be thinking--toys? really? But consider that lending policies at public libraries have always been based on community needs, which is why certain libraries have collections that speak to their particular communities, like items in a particular language, on particular topics, or items that the community can especially use. Tools are a common item you've likely heard about at Bay Area libraries, especially if you've ever benefited from the Tool Library at the Temescal branch. But some other items you might not have seen at libraries are baking pans, fishing poles, drones... for more unique items, check out this list from TechSoup for Libraries.
And be sure to send the little ones in your life to the Rockridge Library to check out some toys from their new collection!
